Birth Choice is Going Mobile This Winter!
We have recently purchased a Mobile Medical Unit from Save the Storks and it should arrive some time this Winter! Soon after our bus arrives, we hope to begin operating it. It will enable trained nurses and client advocates to travel to counties around West TN that have some of the state's highest abortion rates. These abortion vulnerable women will hear the gospel and see their babies on ultrasound. Save the Storks says that 4 out of 5 women who get on their Stork Buses, after being fully informed, choose life!
While we currently see over 800 clients a year, with the mobile unit we hope to expand our reach to 1,000 women and serve three main counties: Hardeman, Haywood, and Fayette. These counties have some of the highest abortion rates in all 95 counties in Tennessee, ranking numbers four, five, and six, respectively, according to the Tennessee Department of Health. We plan to eventually serve two additional counties with the mobile unit.
According to Focus on the Family, women typically drive only 30 to 35 miles to a pregnancy resource center, but are willing to drive over two and a half hours to an abortion facility. Many of the towns in the counties where we will bring the unit are over 35 miles away from our nearest clinic. With our mobile medical unit, we hope to give abortion vulnerable women an opportunity to hear the gospel and see their babies for the first time before they drive to the nearest abortion clinics in Memphis, which are less than two hours away from these counties.
